How to Participate

Anyone over the age of 18 is welcome to participate in the Salt Lake City Foster Art Program. The procedure is outlined below -

1. Contact the program director, John Sproul, expressing your interest in the Foster Art Program. If you have previously participated in the program then skip #2 and send a prioritized list of the artists you would like to foster.

2. A a waiver of liability form and a sample of the contract that will be used between you and the artist will be sent to you. If you agree to the waiver and the contract send a prioritized list of the artists you would like to foster work from and the waiver to the director. You will not be allowed to participate without a signed waiver.

3. Your foster assignment with the artist's contact information will be emailed to you.

4. You will need to contact the artist to arrange a visit to their studio to select a work to foster. When you have selected the work then you and the artist will both need to fill out and sign the foster contract which will include the length of time (usually 3 months) a description of the art work and its value.

5. If you decide you would like to keep the work longer then the original foster agreement you may then rent it from the artist for $50 a month (if the artist agrees to the rental). If you later decide that you would like to purchase the work the rent paid will be applied to the purchase.

6. Once the foster period is completed then you will need to return the work to the artist (unless you have decided to purchase or rent the work) and send a summary of your experience to the artist and the Foster Art Program Director. After the work is returned and you have sent in your summary you are free to foster work from another artist.

If you know someone who would like to participate in the program please have them contact us.

If you are an artist, feel free to submit up to 5 examples of your work, or email a website link to John Sproul to be considered for inclusion in the next round.
